I have been a professional shiatsu practitioner since 1982 supporting individuals in their healing and their personal transformation. After a brief period in London, my Shiatsu career truly took off when I moved to Bristol, where I founded The Bristol School of Shiatsu and served as its principal for 36 years. Following the pandemic, I relocated my practice to the peaceful setting of Langport, Somerset.
Shiatsu is a form of therapeutic bodywork from Japan, rooted in the principles of Oriental medicine. Working through touch, it supports both Physical health, and emotional wellbeing.
In skilled hands, shiatsu can be a profoundly effective for deep healing, personal growth, and transformation. In my practice, shiatsu is offered as a relational process - one that recognises that healing arises through the quality of human connection and presence.
Over more than forty-five years of practice, I have found there are very few health challenges or life difficulties that cannot be helped by this remarkable healing art. Shiatsu touches us at the core, bringing deep relaxation, calm, vitality, and renewal.
Our life experiences shape us in many ways, and these experiences are often reflected in the body - in our posture, patterns of tension, expression of self, and the physical or emotional difficulties we may carry. In this sense, the body holds our life story, including emotional and psychological wounds that may manifest as stress, fatigue, pain, or imbalance.
In shiatsu, these patterns are understood through the meridian energy system. By working with you with this system, shiatsu helps restore harmony and supports a deeper connection with oneself. This often initiates profound healing that can be felt throughout the whole person. Thus shiatsu is overall wonderful for our holistic healthcare and our emotional and spiritual growth.
To support this process, the practitioner applies gentle yet focused pressure using hands, thumbs, elbows, and sometimes feet, working along the meridians and specific acupressure points.
In essence, Shiatsu awakens the body’s natural capacity to heal. It reconnects us with our inner resources and helps unlock our potential for wellbeing and wholeness.
Shiatsu is well recognised for relieving stress, reducing chronic muscle tension, and restoring overall mental and physical balance. Common complaints helped by shiatsu include, back pain, neck and joint pain, migraines, digestive problems, anxiety, depression, fatigue , ADHD, and much more.
I receive regular professional supervision for my shiatsu practice and teaching and am on the professional register of the
I spent several years as an assessor for the Shiatsu Society assessing graduates for their readiness to practice professionally.
