Post graduate training to support and Revitalise Your Shiatsu Practice, making you a more effective Shiatsu Practitioner

Shiatsu Training for Practitioners

I have been offering Post Graduate Training in Shiatsu for the past thirty years. My focus has been less on technique and more on the quality of connection and contact in the shiatsu. This work I feel is true to the essence of Zen, and emphasises our  embodied relational presence in our contact with our clients. It arises out of deep compassion for ourselves and the client and all that arises moment to moment in the unfolding of the shiatsu and the relational field.

"A journey and  a reminder of the essence of shiatsu, the soul - beyond words, with an acceptance and loving of all that arises in myself and in the shiatsu space - brilliantly delivered in presence, love and humility" - Julia

New Autumn Course: Embodied Presence in Shiatsu

A Post Graduate Course for practitioners exploring Relational Depth, Aliveness and the Healing Encounter

With Keith Phillips - ‘A Five-Weekend’ Post-Graduate Training

October 2026 - April 2027

There are moments in shiatsu when something profound begins to happen — moments when we are no longer simply applying techniques or following learned forms, but are instead deeply present, relationally alive, and intimately connected to the unfolding mystery of the encounter.

In such moments, shiatsu becomes less about doing and more about being.

This course is devoted to that shift.

It is an invitation into a more embodied, spacious and authentic way of practising — one in which your presence itself becomes transformative and where the healing potential of shiatsu deepens naturally through relational depth, sensitivity, and aliveness.

Many practitioners, even highly skilled ones, can find themselves caught in habitual ways of working: relying on familiar responses, techniques, concepts or identities about who they believe they should be as practitioners. Over time this can subtly reduce the freshness, immediacy and potency of the work.

This course offers another possibility. Rather than striving to become a “better practitioner,” we explore what happens when we soften our attachment to fixed ways of being and allow ourselves to become more fully present to the living moment. Out of this presence can emerge greater freedom, intuition, responsiveness, creativity, and trust.

As we deepen our capacity to be embodied and relationally available, shiatsu begins to transform. The work becomes more fluid, alive, nourishing and profound — both for the receiver and for ourselves.

This training is for practitioners who long to reconnect with the heart of shiatsu and who feel called toward a way of working that is more spacious, soulful and deeply human.

It is for those who sense that the real potency of shiatsu lies not only in technique, diagnosis or theory, but in the quality of presence we bring and in the mystery of genuine meeting.

“It is in the mystery of the meeting and in the space between giver and receiver where the healing begins.”

This course embraces shiatsu as a relational art.

We will explore how we meet ourselves, how we meet the receiver, and how we remain open to the deeper field that arises between us. We will investigate how presence affects touch, listening, perception, intuition and therapeutic responsiveness.

As practitioners, our challenge is not simply how to apply techniques well, but how to remain emotionally alive, spacious, grounded and open to what seeks its unfolding in the moment.

The course supports a deepening into your own embodied experience and invites the emergence of a more natural, authentic and liberated way of practising.

Out of this can come:

  • Greater trust in yourself and your shiatsu

  • Increased sensitivity and intuitive awareness

  • More creative and responsive treatments

  • A deeper capacity for relational presence

  • Greater ease, freedom and fulfilment in your work

  • A renewed sense of vitality and meaning in practice

This is not a course about adding more techniques.

It is about transforming the quality of how you practise.
It is about rediscovering the aliveness at the heart of shiatsu.

The Course

The course is experiential, practical, relational and deeply embodied.

Together we will create a held and supportive environment devoted to inquiry, transformation and awakening within our shiatsu and ourselves.

We will work with all aspects of shiatsu practice — including meridians, points, diagnosis, Kyo/Jitsu, Yin/Yang, the Five Elements and intuitive perception — while exploring how these arise differently when approached through embodied presence and relational depth.

The Five Elements will weave throughout the training, offering powerful gateways into different qualities of being, perception and connection.

We will explore:

  • Embodied presence and grounded awareness

  • Relational depth and therapeutic connection

  • Listening beyond technique

  • Intuition and felt-sense perception

  • Working with emotional and energetic presence

  • Spaciousness and stillness in treatment

  • Dynamic, fierce and compassionate modes of contact

  • Dialogue that supports depth, clarity and empowerment

  • Trusting emergence rather than controlling outcomes

  • The unfolding mystery within practitioner and receiver alike

We will also work with what arises within us as practitioners — sensation, emotion, image, thought, impulse and energetic movement — not as distractions from the work, but as meaningful aspects of the relational field and potential gateways into deeper understanding and connection.

Expect to be challenged, supported and nourished.

This course does not seek to fix you or reshape you into an ideal practitioner. Rather, it invites you to discover what becomes possible when you allow more of who you truly are into your shiatsu.
